When the Bruins won the Cup in June of 2011, the city erupted with good reason. What we didn't realize was how difficult things would get from that day forward. In less than 1 year, we have seen 4 of the most excruciating season ending losses in memory. First, the Red Sox had the best record in baseball when the Bruins won cup. Thy collapsed in September and blew a 10 gm lead in the wildcard. They lost to the orioles and the rays came back from 7-0 in their final game to send the red sox packing early. Then the beer and fried chicken. Then Francona gone and Dice K and Lackey have tommy john surgery....then this season we see Bard in the minors, Bailey and Ellsbury and Crawford have been out all season and the Red Sox are 29-30 today in last place. Ouch.
The Bruins did win cup, and this season they cruised to the #2 seed in East after winning the Northeast again as Tim Thomas was great again. So what happened? We got a tough draw with the Caps, didn't have a healthy team with Horton and McQuaid out of the lineup for the playoffs, and lost a crushing Game 7 OT loss. Then Tim Thomas retired. One year makes a big difference!
But wait, it gets worse. The Celts. One year ago they won Atlantic again, swept the Knicks, and then met the Heat and lost a key gm 4 in Boston that would of evened series. Hence, the lost. Today? We defeated Hawks and 76ers and faced the Heat in East Finals to go to Championship. The tired Big Three and injured (Green, Bradley, Wilcox) battled hard. The key moment was gm 6. The Celts led 3-2 series with gm 6 in Boston. The Green lost.............and then lost gm 7 in Miami! Ouch. It hurts. Amazing seasons with crushing losses........that's what we Boston fans will remember from June 2011- June 2012.
