Francona was for all intensive purposes fired 48 hours later. How, one might say? the 2011 red sox had the best record in baseball from may-sept, a stunning 82-41 record! Amazing. Problem was a lack of heat in September and april. they started 2-10, and went 7-20 in September. They lost an 11 game lead in the final month, culminating by Papelbon blowing a save in Game 162 in Baltimore as the Rays scored straight runs in their Game 162 after being down 7-0 in bottom 8. Shocking epic sad turn of events that no author or director could ever script. So that is it, move on fast, manager gone, players to go, GM to leave maybe. Unreal. 82-41 was all for naught. On the bright side, the Yanks and Rays did nothing in the playoffs and were left with the same empty feeling as our Sox. The Phills were the best team in the NL and lost to a wildcard team in the Cards who trailed the Braves by 10 games in September. Baseball is frustrating quite often.
The Pats are 3-1. Yes, they lost to the Bills when they blew a 21-0 lead, but smashed Oakland and host the 2-2 Jets tomorrow. The Pats must serve revenge on the team that knocked them out of the playoffs less than a year ago. Payback time.
The Bruins hoisted their 7th banner in team history last night. The team did lose 2-1 but get some slack. The host Tampa tonight in a must win, yes, I wrote that. No team ants to lose the first couple games at home, so it's time to get it done tonight. The black-and-gold have many home games to start the season and have to ride their Championship high for as long as they can!
