Life is pretty damn good. We are in Boston, and since it is April, that means the usual; the Bruins and Celtics in the midst of playoffs. This year's matchups are of the best because both teams are playing their arch rivals. Where do we begin?
The Celtics and Knicks are bitter rivals. Maybe not lately, because the Knicks haven't been in the playoffs in seven years and haven't won a game in even more. The Celtics destroyed the Knicks this week. The first two games were close, but the next two games at MSG were absolute blowouts. Allen and Pierce were great, as was Rondo and Garnett. The Celtics swept the Knicks 4-0. The next opponent is TBD, but a predicted Celtics /Heat matchup is probable. Shaq may be return in Round 2, but the way the Celtics are playing it really doesn't matter!
The Bruins, wow. They saved themselves this week, and the coach in the process. The Bruins and Habs. Epic. Again. The teams met for Game 1 and 2 in Boston, and sadly, very sadly, the Habs stole both games. They came down to the final period and Price outdueled Thomas. The Bruins season looked dire; they were down 2-0 with the next two game in Montreal. The Bruins did not win in Montreal all year, the only place they didn't win at Eastern Conference opponents home ice. The Bruins showed up and won Game 3 after racing to a 3-0 lead. In Game 4, the Bruins battled from 3-1 down, 4-3 down to tie the game in front of a raucous Montreal crown. The game went to OT, and that's where the much maligned Ryder scored the winner! Game 5 moved to Boston, with the momentum changing hands for good we believe. The battle between Price and Thomas continued back in Boston, until the Bruins scored in the 3rd to take a 1-0 lead. Shockingly, the Habs tied tied it up late. The game went to OT, and no team scored. This pivotal Game 5 would go to a 2nd OT. Who would leave Boston one win away from moving on? Luckily, it was Boston, would got a Horton rebound goal to send the Garden crowd into a frenzy. So here we sit, heading to Game 6 in MTL, with the Bruins one win away from ending their hated rivals season!
Though not as important, more good news follows with the Red Sox. I went to the game Sunday, where the Sox entered with a lousy 3-10 record. From that day on, the tide changed as pitching showed up. Lackey, Beckett, Buchholz, Lester and even Dice K threw gems this week as the team swept the Halos this weekend and now sit at 10-11. The team heads to Baltimore with the belief they will get above .500 record by the time they return to Boston next weekend!
