Last week I had to rant about the slew of injuries the club is dealing with. Let me remind you: Pedroia, Drew, Martinez, Buchholz, Cameron, Ellsbury and Hermida. That was 5 of our 9 members on opening day starting lineup! And 2 of the 5 starters on the rotation! And our 4th OF. Well, things got worse this week. Yes, we got Dice K and Drew back. But Delcarmen went on the DL, the 7th inning setup guy. Then, with Martinez out, Varitek took over as the starter, something he relished and welcomed. First game, broken foot, out 6 weeks. Amazing. We couldn't go to Triple AAA, because both catchers are injured. We traded for old friend Cash to get by. So the lineup that the club is putting on the field is pitiful. Too many holes. Hence, the team could only split two vs. Tampa and taking only 2 of 3 vs. the lowly O's. Yet, the team is 49-33, one of the best records in the league and leaving them just 1 game behind the pinstripes. The team heads to Tampa and Toronto before the All Star Break.
In other news, the Celtics resigned Pierce and Rivers is coming back. The Bruins resigned Paille.
