CELTICS LOSE CHAMPIONSHIP IN WANING MINUTES

You see the headline, it can suck to be a sports fan for sure sometimes. The Celtics played well in the series, and after winning game 5 they headed to LA with a 3-2 series lead. All they need was to win one of the 2 games. Well, things changed early on in Game 6. Our center, big body Kendrick Perkins, tore his ankle and missed Game6 and Game7. Hence, the series ended there, The Lakers out rebounded the Green and coasted to a Game 6 win with a shocked and demoralized Celtics club. The Celtics should have won Game 7 and their 18th Championship. They couldn't finish though, even with a big halftime lead and a 13 point second half lead. The game was tied with 5 minutes to go, but the Celtics were already over the limit(the Lakers had only 2 team fouls, funny eh?) and thus the Lakers won Game7 and the Trophy 83-79. Imagine that, just 4 points means the Celtics go home and the Lakers win. Allen was horrific in Game 3-7. You could blame him, but it was a team effort. Nobody was consistent, that is, except the refs. In all 7 games the Lakers went to the line more than the Celtics. Sure, it wasn't fixed, but you have to wonder. The free throw discrepancy spoke for itself. No sour grapes here. The Celtics got utterly screwed when it came to the officiated. That's a shame. Recovery is already underway. The team selected a point guard from Texas with the 19th pick in the NBA Draft, then stole the Big East player of the year with the 52nd pick! Until next season.
The Bruins made some waves. Teams are calling about Thomas and Savard. Meanwhile, we traded Sobotka, resigned Recchi, drafted Seguin #2 pick in the NHL Draft, resigned Boychuk and made qualifying offers to guys such as Stuart/Paille/McQuaid/Wheeler. Oh, and we traded Wideman and the #15 pick to Florida for scorer Horton and 4th liner Campbell.
Let's talk Red Sox. They are doing well, thus their sparkling 46-31 record. Yet, the story is injuries. Epic, unfathomable banged up bodies. Look at who we're missing from opening Day, 6 of the 10 men:
  • Ellsbury(ribs, out since early April)
  • Pedroia(broken foot, out until mid-July)
  • Martinez(foot, thumb)
  • Drew(insert anything you want!)
  • Cameron(returned this week)
  • Beckett(1-1, may return in July)

The team is also missing Buchholz with a foot injury, and just got Dice K back Friday. Hermida, and Lowell, are out as well. Here is the current lineup, highlighted men were there April 1st in opener:

  • SS Scutaro
  • 2B Hall
  • 1B Youkilis
  • DH Oritz
  • 3B Beltre
  • C Varitek
  • CF Cameron
  • RF McDonald
  • LF Nava

Even with this near Triple A personnel, the club is hanging in the race. Thanks to interleague, we are back in business. We swept Arizona and the Manny Ramirez' Dodgers, then went split 6 games with the Rockies and Giants. In Colorado, the club lost a tough nail biter 2-1. The next night, Papelbon blew the save and we lost. Papelbon blew the next game as well! Luckily, Pedroia hit 3 homers(then went on the DL hours later) and we won in extras to avoid the sweep. Against the Giants, we lost the opener despite loading the bases in the 7th and 9th innings! Fortunately, we won the middle game amazingly. Buchholz left after 1 inning with an injury, yet the bullpen did the job and Cameron hit is 1st HR of the season to get the win. Lester out dueled Lincecum today and we head home really hurt but in the race! Standings:

AL EAST

  2. BOSTON 46-31 1.5
  3. TAMPA BAY 44-31 2.5
  4. TORONTO 40-36 7.0
  5. BALTIMORE 23-52 23.5
