Not much to be optimistic about right now. The Pats sit home, the Red Sox are licking their chops after getting swept in the playoffs and the Bruins and Celts continue to under perform. The Bruins story is a gross one. Too many injuries. Disallowed goals. Bad officiating. Inability to close teams out. It hurts right now. The final straw was when Savard went down versus the Hawks' a few weeks ago. Since then, we lost that game as well as the one to the NYR after. The team lost 2 of 3 on the road, and limped back to Boston this week for 3 must-win, easy games. They lost all three! Season over, good night. Embarrassing it was. The team lost 5-1 to Ottawa, then 3-2 to the lowly Jackets and again 2-1 to the Sens. All at home. All losses. Ottawa was behind us all season, and now took the 8 point swing in the two games to moves 6 points ahead of the B's. Life sicks indeed. The loss to the Jackets saw the Bruins give up 2 late goals in the 3rd period, including giving up the game winner in the final minute. The team faces Carolina, and will get Savard and Co. back next weekend. But at this point, who really cares?
The Celtics sucked this week too. They blew a big lead, again, this time on national tv to the Mavericks. The team then blew a 4th quarter lead to the horrible Pistons in a loss. Garnett returned last night, but even that didn't help as it took OT for the Celtics to end their losing streak. Unlike the Bruins though, they have set themselves up to deal with the recent losses, and also are in a weak division. The green play the Clippers on Monday. Revenge is needed as the Clipps stole a buzzer beater win last month on the left coast.
