The Patriots season came to a shocking and disappointing close today. The Patriots lost Wes Welker last week in a meaningless loss to the Texans. They also blew a 14 point 4th quarter lead. Today, in the divisional playoffs versus the Ravens, the team never showed up. They played arguably their 2nd worst game in several years(losing at home versus the Dolphins last season was the worst) and trailed, get this, 24-0 after one quarter! I stopped watching in the 2nd quarter, when I knew for sure the Pats chose not to show up on this day. It was the first home playoff loss since 1978. The Pats went 8-0 at home in the regular season, so today's loss truly stung. Since I stopped watching, I don't have many details. All I can say is what a horrible way to end a satisfactory season.
Things are nearly as bad for the black-and-gold. Injuries, injuries, injuries. I have been watching sports my whole life, yet the 2009-10 Boston Bruins have been more injury plagued than anything I've seen before. Right now, they are missing Savard, who has about 3 weeks to go before he returns. Bergeron is out as well, he is 2 weeks away. Have I mentioned the club is without stud defenseman Ference and Stuart? The players they are using lately is a travesty, and the NHL should fine them in my opinion. It's unfair to fans who pay big bucks to watch these games in-person. This week, the team lost 3 of 4 games. They fell to the Rangers twice. They are now 0-3 against the mediocre NYR this season. Despite beating Ottawa on the heel of 4 first period goals, the team got thrashed 5-2 to the Blackhawks despite holding a 2-0 lead. Things are bleak. Sure, the team has to weather the storm for a few weeks. Problem is, other teams are gaining on the Bruins and Buffalo has pillowed their Northeast division lead. The team has the goal tending, but lack scoring, big time. For now, we have to sick back and watch an AHL-like team try to steal some wins until the real Bruins return.
The Celtics are actually quite impressive. They got Rondo and Pierce back, but are still without Garnett. The team is surviving, something the Bruins will try to do over the next week or two. The team had an exciting week in Miami on Wed, as a Rondo last second tip-in put the game into OT, which was key as the C's won. The team fell in Atlanta 2 nights later, but today the team rebounded and won 114-107 in Toronto. The team is still easily in first place and has a 26-9 mark. The Celts can get revenge on a Hawks team that has won the two previous games when he two teams meet up tomorrow.
