POST 200: PATRIOTS STUNNED IN HOUSTON AND WELKER HURT

Horrific results from today's final regular season game of the 2009 NFL season for our Patriots. Was it because the team blew a 27-13 4th quarter lead? Yes, well sort of. But the possible 2009 NFL MVP, Wes Welker, got injured on the first series of today's game in Houston. A knee injury. It's quite evident it's season ending. Question is, why the hell was he playing in the first place? A meaningless games with no bearing on the playoffs except maybe a #4 seed and not a #3 seed? It's easy to second guess after the fact, but the way our genius coach has screwed up this year, it's warranted. Brady and back up Hoyer split playing time, and the Pats rested many of their starters. Unfortunately, the one who should have been rested the most, Wes, was not. I would say confidently that our Super Bowl hopes are gone, but they were with or without Wes. The 2009 Patriots will be remembered for one thing; the inability to finish road games. The team lost 4 times when leading in the final minutes. Over the past 8 years, the team had only lost one time when leading in the 4th quarter. That stat is beyond ironic and coincidental. It's frightening. Today, the team blew a 27-13 lead and lost by giving up 21 straight points. Disgusting. Good news is the team will host a home playoff game next week. The Pats went 8-0 at Gillette this season, so whoever they play, they should win. But after that, all bets are off.
The Bruins took part in the 2010 NHL Winter Classic, an epic event. In the end, with snow falling on Fenway Park, the game was memorable. It was unreal. The game was 1-0 Flyers most of the way, the lone goal coming when Thomas left his crease to crosscheck Hartnell, one of the dirtiest players in the league. It looked as though the goal would stand up as the winner, but some Fenway magic began. Recchi tipped in a power play goal goal with 2 minutes left to send the game to OT. And before 39,000 fans, Sturm got the OT winner to mark this game as one of the greatest ever around here. With a 4-0 win 2 days earlier, the Bruins sit at 21-12. It's quite impressive, especially with injuries lingering, including Stuart and Looch. The team also signed former stud Mari Satan to a deal. The Bruins have 4 games this week too!
The Celtics struggles continued this week. They played with Rondo, Pierce and Garnett. Of all the Celtics seasons, I've never witnessed so many guys down. The team lost 3 straight games to the lowly Clippers, the lowlier Warriors and then the decent Suns. If not for a solid win against the Raptors last night, things would be sickening right now. To that end, the Celts maintain a great 24-8 record. They play in Miami next.
