The Celtics are 20-5, and hold a 10 game lead in the division. They tip off with the lowly Wolves in mere seconds. The week past was a strange one. They went into Memphis and won their 11th straight basketball game, but then lost on a buzzer beater to the pathetic 76ers. The win was a solid one, the loss a horrific one in which the green blew a double digit lead in the 4th quarter. The team should have little difficulty with the Wolves and Pacers in Boston, then the team plays at Orlando on Christmas!
The Bruins hurt themselves real bad this week. Instead of joining the Caps, Pens and Devils in the elite category(50+ points), the team lost all 3 games and fell into 3rd place in the Northeast and back with the pack in the East. The week started off horrid as a 1-0 3rd period lead at home vs. the Flyers was erased and a loss ensued 3-1. The team limped into Chicago to play a solid Hawks' team. They lost that one 5-4, but got a point. Last night, they got shut out 2-0 to last place Toronto. It sucks, no doubt. But the injuries are some of the most I've ever seen in any sport. No Morris. No Wideman. No Stuart. No Lucic. Not good. Everyone but Stuart will be back before the Winter Classic on New Year's Day. The team plays Ottawa and Atlanta before Christmas. Both opponents are just ahead of the black-and-gold in the East, so wins are vital.
The Patriots had a great day all around. Despite not having Pro Bowl studs such as Taylor, Warren, Neal, and Wilfork, the team dominated the last place Bills. The team led 14-3 at halftime, and although they gave up a late TD, they held on 17-10. It was not easy though, and the Bills forced several punts in the final frame to leave the game in doubt. Welker(4 catches, 40 yards) was held to his worst game of the year, and Brady threw a pick and missed more passes than he hit, but the team ran well, got 5 sacks and did enough for the victory. Wright filled in for Wilfork exceptionally, and Tully Banta-Cain had 3 sacks. With the Dolphins and Jets losing, the Pats can win the AFC East with a win next Sunday in Foxboro versus the average Jags.
AFC EAST
- PATRIOTS 9-5
- DOLPHINS 7-7
- JETS 7-7
- BILLS 5-9
