The season thus far for our 2009 New England Patriots has been an interesting one. What we know through 15 games is that they hold a 10-5 record. Their record, if not for fourth quarter collapses, should be 14-1. But it is what is, right Bill. The bottom line at this juncture of the season is that the Pats have won another AFC East division. They will host an opening weekend playoff game in January at Gillette Stadium.
This past Sunday, the Pats polished off a 7-7 Jaguars team 35-7. Brady was stellar, as he only missed on 3 attempts. Moss caught 3 scores and Welker has 13 catches, continuing to break all kind of NFL records. The defense was solid, even without key players such as cog Vince Wilfork.
The team will likely rest some regulars next weekend in Houston. The 8-7 Texans have an outside chance at winning a wildcard, but honestly, they are playing to have their first winning season in franchise history. I expect them to win, but that depends on many other variables. The team needs to stay healthy. Bottom line. The only thing the Pats have to play for is to keep the #3 seed. Go Pats!
It can't all be good. The Celtics did the unthinkable the past two games; they lost. Surely, the injury the has kept captain Paul Pierce on the sidelines the past 3 games hurts. Even though the team won some easy games versus the Wolves and Pacers and then went into Orlando on Xmas and beat the Magic, the way the week ended said a lot. The team lost to a horrendous Clippers club. Rondo missed 2 free throws with the game tied and 1.6 seconds left. Needless to say, the Clippers got the ball side out and hit a miracle buzzer beater. The next night, in Golden State, the team blew an 18 point lead and lost 103-99. That sucks.
Up until a crappy 2-1 loss in Tampa Bay, the Bruins had a little something going as they await the return of some key guys such as Looch. The team correctly decided to let Thomas have his time to shine and prove why he won the Vezina last season. The team and he blanked the Sens early last week, then beat the Thrashers. The club headed out to Florida for a 2 game swing. The club won against the Panthers 2-1 but then last night's loss hurt. Bottom line here is they need to acquire a sniper, a proven goal scorer. Problem is, the trade deadline will bring that, but that's still months away. For now, they are looking okay at 19-12, with a much needed victory yearned for against the Thrashers. Then it's the big event, the 2010 NHL Winter Classic.
Lastly, the BC Eagles successful season ended without a bang. The club fought PAC 10 powerhouse USC until the end. Down 14-13 in the final frame, they could not score again and lost 24-13. Next season looks bright, as many of the regulars return, especially Harris at RB.
