BOSTON SPORTS SCENE ROLLS INTO NOVEMBER

While the Phillies play the Yanks in the 2009 World Series, fans around here have to wonder why it's not us. But it is what it is. We'll root for the Phillies and focus our attention to the Revs, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots(even during the bye week).
The Bruins are in trouble. The best players from last season are not playing right now: Kessel got traded, Looch has and will be out with a broken finger, Savard has and will be out with a broken foot and Kobasew got traded. Poor Krejci is all alone, for the most past, and has only 5 points. Goals have been hard to come by, our PP is pathetic, our goalies are good but not great and we're injured, and look like we've yet to recover from Game 7 OT loss in the playoffs last season.
This week, the team did poor and scored very little. The team got the Devils in Boston, and lost a heartbreaker; the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie until the bad guys scored in the final minutes. The team welcomed in the Oilers next, and got 2 3rd period goals to back up Rask's SO. But the good news went by fast, as 24 hours later the team lost another heartbreaker 1-0 in NY. It stinks to be a Bruins player or fan. The team is 6-6. They have some big games next week, starting with Detroit then MTL. The team has swapped a win for a loss since the opener.
The Celtics are great! What a terrific way to start the 2009-10 season. The team is still loaded, with the Big Three(Pierce, Garnett and Allen) plus Perkins and Rondo. The bench is thick, led by newcomer Rasheed Wallace. The team went 4 for 4 this week!
3 of the 4 wins were against impressive teams, just look:
  1. Game 1: Boston 95 Cleveland 89
  2. Game 2: Boston 92 Charlotte 59
  3. Game 3 Boston 118 Chicago 80
  4. Game 4 Boston 97 New Orleans 87

Mighty impressive.

As for the Pats, the standings are below. They face the Dolphins next weekend.

  1. Patriots 5-2
  2. Jets 4-4
  3. Dolphins 3-4
  4. Bills 3-5

Mighty impressive too.

The other team from Gillette, the New England Revolution, are in the playoffs again. Arguably the most successful MLS franchise, the Revs are playing their rival, the Chicago Fire. These clubs have met in the playoffs 5 straight seasons and 7 out of the last 8 seasons!

The Revs won the opening match 2-1. We'll be rooting for them in the decisive Game 2 next weekend .

Lastly, the Boston College Eagles beat a solid Central Michigan team over the weekend, 31-10. The team is now bowl eligible with their 6-3 record. The team has 3 ACC games left and winning the next one, versus Virginia, would keep the ACC title hopes alive!
