This one's really difficult to write. If you're a Boston sports fanatic, such as myself, this may go down as the worst week in sports history around here. Where do we start?
The Patriots. For the 5th straight week, the Pats took on an undefeated team. We traveled to Denver to take on the undefeated Broncos in Mile High. The team played a great first half and led 17-7. But the Broncos kept it close and scored the tying TD with 5 minutes to play. The Pats drove down the field and sat on the 50 yard line with 2 minutes to play. Brady, who has not been himself this year, thus far, missed a few throws and inevitably the game went into OT. The Pats never saw the ball as the Broncos won the coin toss and scored a field goal. So the Pats sit at 3-2, way below expectations. They host Tennessee next weekend.
The Red Sox season is over. The team had an epic season and was in first place most of the year, including holding the best record in the AL up until late July. But they saw the Yanks blow right past them in August and thus we lost home field advantage and the season. The team lost both games in LA, as they couldn't hit air. The team scored only 1 run combined in both losses. The team came home mad and sad. Good starts by Lester and Beckett were wasted. And so was Buchholz' start in Game 3. The Sox led 6-4 in the 9th, and after Papelbon got the 1st 2 outs, the halos were down to their final strike. But Pap surprisingly could not get it, and the halos went nuts and scored 3 runs. The Sox couldn't score in the 9th. Season over.
To add salt to the wound, per say, the Bruins played horrible this week. They lost 6-1 to the Ducks, and followed it up with a win. But the team trailed the Isles 3-0 with 7 minutes left, but miraculously the boos turned to cheers as the team scored 3 goals late and won in a shootout. But the team lost to the Avs 4-3 today. Hence, the team went 2-3 on their 5 game opening homestand. They were booed off the ice in both losses, and booed for 53 minutes in their lone victory this week.
Oh, and the Eagles got pummeled 48-14 in Blacksburg on Saturday. Well, warned you not read this week's blog.
Hopefully next week will be better. Can't get any lower than right now for a Boston sports fan.
