The Red Sox were pretty darn good this week. The Yanks came to town and we swept them! The Red Sox are now 8-0 vs. our arch enemies this season! In the opener, Beckett was masterful as he relented only 1 hit and zero runs in a great 7-0 victory. The following night, the Sox banged out Wang and got 6 good ones from Wake in the win, which was followed up with a 4-3 win, thanks in part to 6 scoreless innings from Penny and a 3-run 8th inning! The Sox moved on to Philly in great spirits!
Once in town, the Sox wasted little time in their business as Lester was stunning once again, and even though Ramirez blew a 2-1 lead in the 9th, the team bounced back and won 5-2 in 13. The next night saw the Sox score 5 runs in the first and got another poor performance fro Dice-K. Yet, the team got 3 BB from both Youk and Ells, and scored 11 times in the victory! A perfect week was ruined by an unlikely pitcher, Beckett. The Sox lead 4-1 early, but Beckett imploded in the 5th(4runs). His solo shot tied it at 6, but he and the pen' gave up 5 runs in the 7th and lost. The team still has the best record in the AL(38-25) and also holds a 2 game lead in the division!
Pedroia was horrid this week, as was Dice-K. But every other player performed. Big Papi hit 3 HR recently and is showing signs of coming around. Smoltz will be ready any day now. The team has 4 solid starters as they wait for Dice to awaken. The pen is amazing, despite some serious hiccups this week from Ramirez and Delcarmen. In the division, the Rays and Yanks were solid this weekend and both gained a game on the Sox this weekend. The O's and Jays continue to slump. Interleague baseball continues this week as the Marlins come into the Fens this week!
