The Celtics and Bruins amazing 2008-09 season's are complete, and the Red Sox have sole attention from all those involved in the Boston sports scene. This week they blew an opportunity to take full advantage of the spotlight.
The team struggled the prior week but salvaged the finale vs. the Mets. They headed out for a 10-game roadie in first place. With a poor week over, they are lucky to be in second place.
The trip started out with a 4-game series with the Twins. And good riddance to the Metrodome. That place is a dump. Everything about the place is pathetic. Unless we see them in the post-season, sayonara. As for this final series at the so-called field, the Sox split. They won on Memorial Day behind a 16-hit attack and a decent start from Penny. Then our team went ice-cold, from an offensive standpoint, as they totaled only 4 runs and lost the next 2 close games. The team managed a split by winning the 4th game, as Beckett cruised and Tek' hot two homers before getting ejected, alongside 3 others via a Triple AAA's umpire first pro game. Despite the victory, Ellsbury's 22-game hit streak ended. The team headed to Toronto, to face a club that had lost 9 straight.
The Jays ended that one right away. They blew a nice lead as Wake had difficulty in the 5th inning. The next game was a matinee that saw the Sox blow another lead and eventually losing it late. Fortunately, the Sox salvaged a win today to at least get one win and move into 2nd place behind the streaking Yanks. Lester was solid and Youk hit 2 dingers.
The team is 29-22. They head to Detroit for 3 and then come home. The starting pitching is improving, the offense is decent and the bullpen is strong. Ellsbury and Pedroia continue to roll, but Big Papi is still awful and is batting .186 in the #6 hole.
