APRIL 2009 PLAYOFFS TREK IN BOSTON

This is an exciting blog. The Red Sox are underway and the green & black and gold have kicked off their 2009 playoff journey. Let's start with the good!
The Bruins ended the regular season with a 6-2 win in Long Island! With the #1 seed long clinched, the team waited around to see who their opponent in the #8 seed would be. And guess what? For the 32nd time in NHL history, the Bruins will face none other than their arch enemy in Montreal! The rematch of last season's epic 7 game series and also the brawl filled battle in Boston on the 9th of this month had fans around the world in utter happiness. It was on!
This season, the Bruins own the home ice advantage and used it well in the first 2 games as they trounced the Habs 4-2 and 5-1! Thomas was sharp as always in both games! The Habs went down 2-0 in Game 1 but managed to tie it up until Chara's 3rd period PP goal was the winner! In Game 2, the difference between the two clubs arose even more so. The Bruins dominated and won in all facets! Price was yanked after 2 periods but the damage was already done across the board! Savard's 4-point night shined the brightest as the Bruins take their 2-0 series lead to Montreal for Games 3 and 4 next week. If there is a Game 5 it will take place in Boston next weekend! Even with the 2-0 series lead, the Bruins know they have to keep up the same intensity and passion to get the most coveted revenge, a sweep.
The Celtics found a way to get blown out by the Cavs last Sunday in front of a national television audience. But they recovered rather quickly by defeating the 76ers and Wizards in their last two regular season games. The opponent for Round 1 is the Bulls. But for Game 1 in Boston, that was not good news. In an epic game marred by poor officiating the Celts were stunned 105-103 in OT. Paul Pierce missed a free throw with a couple seconds remaining that would have won it for the Green. Unfortunately, he missed and the game went to OT where Allen(1-12 shooting) missed a jumper that would of tied it at the buzzer. The news was even worse than this upset. Garnett was ruled out for the entire playoffs the day before. With that being said, the Celtics dreams of a back-to-back NBA Championship faded. The team will have a tough time beating the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals. That is, if they get there. The team should have enough talent to still get through the Bulls and either the Magic/76ers before that but who knows? It will be interesting to see how it all plays out this week and beyond. Game 2 is in Boston tomorrow before Games 3 and 4 later on next week in The Windy City.
Lastly, the Red Sox are in a funk. Sort of. The team lost in Anaheim last Sunday and then went on to lose the first 2 games they should have won in Oakland. Dice-K was placed on the DL after blowing a 1st inning 3-0 lead in the 2nd loss. Even with a win(Wakefield no-hitter for 7.1 innings) in the 3rd and final game on the brief West Coast trip, the team limped back to Boston at 3-6(first time under .500 in years) and in last place. Fortunately, the team enjoyed some home cooking as they beat the O's in the 3 games this weekend. Outside of Youk and Bay, the team is struggling offensively. Most notably, Big Papi, who has only one extra-base hit through 12 games. Ouch! The team has one more with the O's before a visit from the Twins!
Lastly, some other sports notes of importance. The Revs are tied for 1st place and have yet to lose an MLS game. And the #2Providence Bruins have started their 2009 playoffs. They are playing #3Portland and after a blowout win this afternoon lead the 7 game series 2-1!
