The big game..................Bruins/Habs at the Bell Center! Before I get into the Celtics winning streak on this Super Bowl edition of the one and only Boston sports blog, let's talk hockey! The Bruins entered the week with a game at home versus the Capitals, a team that defeated the Bruins twice already. Revenge was granted as the Bruins won 3-2 in OT. Tim Thomas outduelded Theodore as Krejci scored the winner. Even better news, the Bruins welcomed back a slew of much needed enforcements in Bergeron, Looch and Ference. The team then hosted another division leader; the NJ Devils. The Devils played well and actually led 2-0 after 2 periods. But the Bruins scored 3 straight goals in the 3rd but give up the lead in the final 2 minutes. The Clemmenson/Thomas duel ended in OT after a goal by Langenbrunner. After 2 games versus the Bruins closest competitors, nothing had been settled, but all in all the Bruins were content with the results. The Bruins then closed out the brief homestand, and the month of January, with a great 1-0 win over the NYR. With Fernandez out with back spasms, future NHL star goalie Tuukka Rask got the start and shutout win with a dazzling performance. A goal by Savard was enough! The icing on the cake came in a thrilling win at MTL today. Thomas and Price battled but a Wideman goal with under a second to go in the opening period pulled the Bruins even and got momentum back. The Bruins clung to a 2-1 lead until Savard scored an EN goal to finish off the Habs' 3-1. The Bruins took the 4 point swing and now lead them by 18 points! As I will often do each week, the updated standings are below! As for next week, the Bruins play 2 with the Flyers and a game vs. the Sens sandwiched in between. Go Bruins!
The Celtics are smokin' hot too. The team has a current 11 game win streak after winning all 3 games this week. The team bashed the Kings 119-100, held off the Pistons 86-78 and then outlasted the T-Wolves 109-101. The team has the best record in the NBA! The team aims to continue the streak with games this week with the 76ers, Lakers, Knicks and Spurs!
