THE REAL TEST

More often than not I test out my sports knowledge and see if my nickname is worthy. Do I earn it? A great way to gauge it is looking back at the predictions I gave for each of the major sports. So let's take a look back at the MLB that I for seen before the season.

TEAMS/MY PREDICTION/FINAL RECORD/PROXIMITY
AL EAST
BOSTON 92 95 3
NEW YORK 90 89 1
TORONTO 87 86 1
TAMPA BAY 77 97 20
BALTIMORE 67 68 1

Nobody saw the Tampa thing coming. I have no regrets. I nailed 4 out of 5 and 80% ain't bad!

AL CENTRAL
CLEVELAND 92 81 11
DETROIT 90 74 16
CHICAGO 86 88 2
MINNESOTA 78 88 10
KANSAS CITY 69 75 6

Cleveland dealt with injuries. I'm truly disappointed in not giving the Twins enough credit and the complete opposite for the Tigers.

AL WEST
LOS ANGELES 92 100 8
SEATTLE 86 61 25
TEXAS 77 79 2
OAKLAND 76 75 1

I feel great about the two bottom picks but clearly Seattle's season was most disappointing AL team in 2008. I actually underestimated them if you compare the pick to others.

NL EAST
NEW YORK 90 89 1
PHILADELPHIA 86 92 6
ATLANTA 86 72 14
WASHINGTON 68 59 9
FLORIDA 68 84 16
I let my fave NL team down by underrating them by 16 games. The Phillies got hot late and the Braves faltered and traded away players around the deadline to further hurt their final record.

NL CENTRAL
CHICAGO 88 97 9
MILWAUKEE 87 90 3
CINCINNATI 77 74
HOUSTON 75 86 11
ST. LOUIS 75 86 11
PITTSBURGH 74 67 7
No real let down here. Houston and St. Louis did better than expected.

NL WEST
ARIZONA 90 82 8
SAN DIEGO 88 63 25
COLORADO 84 74 10
LOS ANGELES 84 84 -
SAN FRANCISCO 75 72 3

San Diego was by far the most disappointing team of the NL 2008. Enough said!
