Much happening these days in our sports world. The Revolution are in the midst of the MLS playoffs. They tied the Fire 0-0 and the series will be decided later this week. The Eagles fell to Clemson 27-21. It was a tough loss, the 2nd in a row, and now are a disappointing 5-3. They need to beat Notre Dame(at The Heights) to reach the 6 win bowl eligibility.
The Celtics tipped off their 2008-09 campaign and played 3 games this week. They won at home vs. the Cavs and Bulls but fell in Indiana yesterday. The Red Sox are now 2 weeks done, but the good news is the Phillies beat those pesky Rays in 5. Makes you wonder what could of been. Fox must be saying the same thing as the Rays/Phills series was the lowest rated Fall Classic to date!
The Pats are 5-2 and alone in 1st place after the Bills lost earlier today. The good guys play the Colts later tonight! Go Pats!
Lastly, my beloved Bruins had a great week! They headed north and beat the Oilers 1-0 behind Tim Thomas! The next night they traveled to Vancouver and won again by a 1-0 margin. Thomas back-to-back shutouts were very impressive. Unfortunately, the team fell to Calgary 3-2 before coming home to take on the Stars. In that game, the team left the Stars seeing stars! The Bruins won a bruising game 5-1. But during and after the contest the talk was all about the fights and skirmishes. The Bruins had a season high 77 PIM and the Stars had a season high 69! It was Ott and Avery that stirred things up whether it be low body shots, facewashing or other illegal hockey instances. Chara, Ference, Thornton, Hnidy and even Savard played physical as a full blown 10 player brawl occurred in the final frame. Sturm netted 2 goals and Tim Thomas won again. His numbers are very impressive and are near tops in all statistics: 4-2-2 .944 1.83! He will surely be NHL player of the week for his work this week. The team is 6-3-3 and our playing fantastic. The team has 2 games at home this week and seek to punish the Leafs and Sabres for both defeating the Bruins last month! Go Bruins!
