NO!

Yesterday I woke up in great spirits. After all, the 2008 NFL season offically kicked off and my beloved New England Patriots had a game to play. The Pats did win the game but it came with the worst possible terms;2007 NFL MVP Tom Brady got injured and won't play again this season.
Today I woke up in..................wait a minute, I did not wake up. I did manage to crawl out of bed but I walked around all day shellshcoked. It was not a dream. Our saviour is indeed out this year. How could this happen? It was the first quarter of the first game! He is a 2 time Super Bowl MVP who is considered untouchable by every other player in the league.
Whether or not the play was dirty matters little. He's done this year. His consecutive streak of starting football games for the club will end next weekend. He started the past 110 games or so over the past 7+ years. He has carried this team since 2001. He is the face of the Pats and the NFL for that matter.
There are something like 1600 players in the league and Tom Terrific is the best. By a wide margin. His 50 TD's last season is a record. He threw only 8 picks! He threw for nearly 5000 yards! All records! The highest single game QB rating in NFL history? Brady! Arguably the most TD's thrown in a game? Brady! The 50 TD's and 8 picks last season is a +42 difference, an NFL record! So clearly he is what every QB in the league strives to be. He's the ultimate leader.
Consider this. The Pats have won 20 straight regular season games, which of course is an NFL record and Brady was under center for all of them. That's 20 straight victories! The last regular season loss was in 2006! That loss was to the Dolphins, who got a whopping 120+ yards from Sammy Morris. Ironically, it was Morris(now with the Pats) who missed the block on yesterday's catatrophic injury to Brady!
Needless to say I'm crushed. I don't know what's more shocking, the Giants beating is in the final minute of last year's Super Bowl or this. I can easily look at the glass half-full. They were a 14-2 team with him this year and now probably 10-6 w/o him. But 11 or 12 wins could still happen. They are stacked in all facets of the game. But the glass is a bit half empty, Brady is no longer a part of the odds on favorite team to win this season's Super Bowl.
Time will heel. We'll all move on. Cassell will try to do what Brady himself did on that day of fate(9-23-01);fill in for the starting QB who goes down with an injury. Will Cassell have the same success? Who knows. Tom is a pure talent who calls his own plays and has a glistening record in his career. He has thrown an astonishing 197 TD's to only 86 picks. He has started 110 regular season games and won 86! He has won 14 of 17 playoff games. Thus. Tom Terrific is 100-27 record! He has the NFL record of 10 straight postseason wins!
Enough already. The league will move on. Every team has a shot now. All the beatings the Pats handed out will likely stop, for now, so teams will try their best. But even w/o Brady, expect another division crown. After all, they've won 5 straight AFC East titles and 6 of 7! Domination!
Again, the season for the Pats and everyone has changed. New landscapes. But don't you count out Belichick and the Pats! They'll still be in the mix for another great season. Mark my words.
