Your 2008 Boston Red Sox club continue to disappoint their fans near and far. Once again, they continue to waver back and forth more than the flag that is displayed at Fenway. They fluctuate more than the past 8 months on Wall Street has. They're lost. But so isnt about 27 other teams in the big league. Outside of the Rays(insert punchline), Angels and Cubs, every club is trying to find their way.
The Sox took their awful road record into KC and played okay. #5 starter Clay Buchholz continue to amaze people at how bad he is. And the Sox wouldn't trade for Santana? He blew a lead and the club fell 4-3. The team did wake up for a couple days as they won the next 2 games.
8-2 was the bashing in both wins. They got pitching in all aspects and hit the ball.
But the momentum was lost real quick. They headed to Chicago to take on the 1st place White Sox. Lester pitched well in the opener but the team couldn't hit the up-and-down Mark Buehrle.
The next night, the team won 6-2 behind another great Dice-K start. He's now 13-2! Game 3 on Sunday was a big one. A Mike Lowell 3 run shot in the 1st staked the club to an early lead........................but of course the pathetic Buchholz blew it. Problem is that he's too good to be sent to Triple A(he threw something like 25 innings and gave up only 2 runs in 5 starts a few weeks back) Even with the good guys down 6-5 in the 7th, they had bases loaded one out for Lowell. Needless to say, he grounded into a DP. Hence, another 1 run loss on the road. It sums up the team, especially on the road. They are a great team that plays like a bad team quite often. Though that may not make much sense, neither does that disparity of the Sox on the road and at home. Home-40-16. Away- 27-35.
The Sox have one more in The Windy City before coming home for 6 games vs. two mediocre teams. They need to win 5 of them, especially with Tampa winning nearly every game. Wake up!
In other news, Matt Ryan had a great 1st pre-season game. It's great to see our BC Eagle doing well after all the great wins we witnessed with him at the helm in Chestnut Hill. The Patriots, whom all of New England can't wait to see this season, held a season ticket only practice in the stadium this past Monday and I was in attendance. They looked solid, even though they lost 16-15 to Baltimore in the pre-season opener days later.
The Cannons (MLL) missed the playoffs this season despite being 7-5. They finished tied with the Barrage but are the odd team out.
Some of you know I'm a fan of the Red Sox. But especially the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, whom I watch a bit and go to a couple game a year. They won the Championship last year and I witnessed several wins. Well, this year not so much. They missed the playoffs(they never do, as they won 3 of the last 4 championships) this year as they sputtered at the end. The Cape Cod League is great talent, as many players(including current Sox players Varitek and Casey) make the Big Show at some point in time. Buster Posey, a big part of the Championship team last year, was actually the 4th player taken in this year's MLB Draft! Get em' next season.
The Bruins start in October, same for the Celtics, who will raise the banner vs. the Cavs! Anything to keep our mind off our frustrating Boys of Summer! The Patriots will play in Tampa next week and the 1st game is vs. KC. Lastly, Favre was traded to the Jets. We'll get to bash him twice this season. The Pats are the odds-on fave to win the Super Bowl this year, but what else is new!
