Well, let's try to answer that. Read earlier blogs here and we see my predictions of the NFL, MLB and NHL. Well, how about the NBA? Let's find out.
Like any sport, there are givens: The Red Wings and Star will be in the NHL playoffs, the Red Sox and Angels will be in the MLB playoffs and the Patriots and Colts will do the same in the NFL. In the NBA, we know the Pistons and Spurs will be there. But there are always your surprise teams. Injuries and trades alter any pre-seaon prediction too. And as we remember the battle for worst record tank-job last year between Memphis/Boston for the top lottery pick(Odom). Below are the final standings for 2007-08 NBA regular season. The first record, in black, was the actual record, the second record, in green, was my prediction before the season began.
East Atlantic:
- Boston 66-16 52-30
- Toronto 41-41 46-36
- Philadelphia 40-42 33-49
- New Jersey 34-48 50-32
- New York 23-59 37-45
Yes, I did poorly. Who thought my Celtics were going to be that good? Or the Raptors were going to take a step backwards? Or Philadelphia improving? Or New Jersey dealing with injuries then trading Kidd? The Knicks, well we all knew that. They always finish last, year after year. I gave them too much credit. I am most embarrassed about that!
East Central.
- Detroit 59-23 55-27
- Cleveland 45-37 46-36
- Indiana 36-46 41-41
- Chicago 33-49 49-33
- Milwaukee 26-56 45-37
Again I'm disappointed. Yes, Detroit was a good spot but it was a given. Cleveland made me look like I know something! Chicago reminds me a great deal like Toronto;a major pullback. Milwaukee will be good next year, guess I gt ahead of myself. They'll win 45 next year.
East Southeast.
- Orlando 52-30 54-28
- Washington 43-39 42-40
- Atlanta 37-43 41-41
- Charlotte 32-50 33-49
- Miami 15-67 46-36
Let's take Miami out of the mix. Nobody predicted this. Wade was hurt, Shaq got dealt. Otherwise, the other 4 picks here save my credibility. The numbers speak for themselves.
West Northwest
- Utah 54-28 52-30
- Denver 50-32 47-35
- Portland 41-41 36-46
- Minnesota 32-50 22-60
- Seattle 20-62 26-56
I'm happy with everything above. The Wolves' won some games to surprise everybody.
West Pacific
- LA Lakers 57-25 46-36
- Phoenix 55-27 56-26
- Golden State 48-34 36-48
- Sacramento 38-44 34-48
- LA Clippers 23-59 50-32
Only concern here was me not believing in the Warriors and the Clippers putting in little effort, although I expected Brand to be a part of the club but he was injured from Day 1. Mulligan.
West Southwest
- New Orleans 56-26 48-34
- San Antonio 56-26 53-29
- Houston 55-27 55-27
- Dallas 51-31 54-28
- Memphis 22-60 30-52
Guess I saved the best for last. I'm content. Try again next season!
