In early October, I predicted the NHL season. I did okay. Let's make a comparison. In the Eastern Conference, I nailed 5 of the 8 playoff teams. Though Carolina lost their playoff spot on the last day, I managed to come close. I'm embarrassed that Atlanta tanked it and traded their best player Hossa. I was wrong on Buffalo, they also traded one of their best players and battled some key injuries. Though Montreal and Boston were both figured to miss out on the postseason on most analysts predictions, they did not. Both had great seasons. I'm most proud of Washington, my sleeper pick. They did in fact get in on the final weekend. I picked the bottom three nearly perfect and I had Philadelphia in the 9 spot but a win on the final game in the regular season moved them out of the spot. All in all, it was average picks. I was dead on about Ottawa and Emery, the Rangers defense, and Brodeur only taking the Devils so far.
Out West, I did real well, picking 7 of 8 correct. I was off on Vancouver, but I figured Luongo could be burned out by season's end with all the minutes he plays. The West was a bit easier, with the likes of Dallas, Anaheim, San Jose and Detroit seemingly locked in for a spot. I'm most proud of the Nashville pick, most gave them no shot. It was a great season. I'll do it again next time.
