The 2007-08 Boston Celtics are going to the NBA Finals after beating the physical Detroit Pistons in 6 games. The team did lose game 4 in Detroit, as they trailed by a few baskets all game until the very end where they gave in. But the team bashed the Pistons at home in game 5 and despite nearly blowing a 17 point lead held on to win the game. The team traveled to a hostile environment and won game #6. After blowing a solid lead via a 31-20 3rd quarter in favor of the Pistons, the Celts entered the 4th quarter trailing. With the Celts down 70-60, the team finally woke up by running off 10 straight points to tie it up. The team continued to make big shots and won the game 89-81. The last 10 minutes of the 4th quarter was the first time in awhile wherein the team stuck together on the road and won. That bodes well as they welcome the Lakers into The Garden starting on Thursday night.
So much like old times, the Celts and Lakers will battle for the NBA Championship. The Celts have 17 titles to the Lakers 13. That equals 30, which is nearly half of the overall titles give out at 61. The Lakers have an uphill battle as Ray Allen looks to of found his stroke and Garnett, Pierce, Rondo and Perkins are shining. Meanwhile, Posey and Brown will continue to head the bench alongside House, Powe and Cassell. With Hamilton, Wallace, Maxiell, Billups, Stuckey and McDyess in the rear-view mirror, the team will have to focus on Gasol, Walton, Odom, Fisher and of course, Bryant and Co. and a great series it will be. Odds are the Celts in 6 or 7 games as the home-court advantage goes to the Celts. The 2 teams met twice in the regular season and the green won both. Go Celtics!
The Red Sox are still trying to fix their problems on the road. The team got swept by the Athletics to end a horrific last week and headed to Seattle, whom has the worst record in the AL and had lost 7 straight. The Sox won the 1st game as Colon outdueled Hernandez and the club put a 4 spot on the board in the 8th. Hoping things would turn for the better after the win it did not as the Mariners won the next 2 games by 1 run to humiliate the Red Sox. With their heads down, the team traveled to Baltimore to take on the O's who swept a short series here of recent time. All of a sudden the team starting to score and won all 3 games to improve to 4-5 on their 10 game road trip. Manny Ramirez hit his 500th homer during the series and Ellsbury stole 6 bases in 2 games. The team hit all weekend and pitched brilliantly, including the shaky early bullpen. They have one more game in Baltimore before taking on the 1st place Rays(yes, it is no joke) then Seattle again. The team needs to win the game in Baltimore, then head home to retake their division and payback the Mariners for this week's disappointment. Go Sox.
