MOTHER'S DAY PLAYOFF WEEKEND

Thanks for coming back once again for the weekly Boston sports blog of mine. First, cheers to the Providence Bruins, a la the Baby Bruins, whose season came to an abrupt and surprising end yesterday. They had the AHL's best record since the opening drop and swept the first round series behind Bruins future star goalie T. Rask. The smashed Portland the first 2 games but then lost 4 straight, 2 in overtime, games by 1 goal. Tough break but great season.
The Red Sox will be underway in 90 minutes, and the week was solid. You would think a 4-2 mark would be good right? Not when you realize the 2 losses were blown saves. The combination of poor defense and bloop hits contributed 2 Papelbon'2 BS. Even so, the team basically thrashed Detroit and Minnesota, with a 2 games upcoming with the latter. A combination of a hot Youkilis(6 HR last 7 games) and a great starting five has given this club the league's best record thus far. Here are the AL East standings:
  1. Boston 24-15
  2. Tampa 21-16
  3. Baltimore 19-19
  4. New York 19-19
  5. Toronto 17-21

Finally, let's talk Celtics playoffs. The team won both games at home versus the Cavs by shutting down King James. In game 1, the Celts won despite 0 points from Allen and 4 points from Pierce. Miraculous win considering those stats! After winning game one 76-72, game 2 came a lot easier as the green won 89-73. But game 3 was a different story as the Cavs won, despite the fact Lebron was basically held in check. The 24 point loss was by far the worst all season. Strange thing is, the Celts were an NBA best 31-10 on the road in the regular season, but now they are 0-4 in the playoffs. Something's gotta give, hopefully it'll happen for the good guys in Game 4. All in all, a 2-1 Boston series lead is expected and welcomed. Go Celtics!
