I know its been over 2 weeks but I'm back to fill the four of you out there reading what's been going on, in the Boston sports circle that is. The Red Sox can be great or really suck. They did both of that of recent time. Since the last post, the team lost 4 straight, won 7 straight and now lost 3 in a row. Not good. The low points were losing the last 2 games vs. the lowly Twins and then getting swept by the horrible Orioles and Athletics. No excuses. Embarrassing.
The good was a 3-game sweep of the Brewers and 4-game sweep of the Royals. I was at the first game of four versus the Royals, which was of course the Jon Lester no-hitter. What a night it was. With the powerful wind chill, it was at or below freezing. But the no-no made it all worth while. The team is 21-5 at home, and get this, 10-17 on the road?! Huh. And for their troubles, Tampa has shockingly overtaken the good guys by .5 in the AL East. Though it won't last much longer, the Sox better fix things away from the Fens. They travel to face AL worst Seattle this week. Hopefully things will turn in the right direction on the trip.
The Red Sox were not the only team in Boston struggling on the road. The Celtics were up 2-1 on the Cavs the last time your eyes read this blog. The team went on to lose Game 4 and 6 on the road but fortunately won Games 5 and 7 at home, thus advancing into the Eastern Conference Finals with home-court advantage over the Detroit Pistons. The Game 7 duel of Lebron James (45 points) and Paul Pierce (41 points) was memorable.
On to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Celtics won Game 1 88-79 but lost Game 2 103-97. The Celtics were 9-0 at home before the loss. So the Celtics, 0-6 on the road in the playoffs, now were forced to win at least 1 game on the road to advance to the NBA Finals vs. the Lakers/Spurs matchup out West. The Celtics did in fact look like the 31-10 road regular season club in Game 3 and won 94-80. So that is where we stand. The Celts are up 2-1 with Game 4 minutes away. We'll all know by next Sunday at the latest who wins this one. Go Celtics!
