First, the UMass Minutemen deserve props for their 2007-08 campaign. They went 21-10 but just missed the NCAA March Madness Tournament. So they're in the NIT. They won their first 2 games and are in the Elite 8. Good stuff. They travel as the #2 seed to take on #1 seed Syracuse at the rambunctious Carrier Dome. Back in November, the good guys went into the Dome and won 107-100. It was toted as one of the best college basketball games this year. The winner will take on the #2 Florida at #1 ASU winner in the final Four.
The Celtics continue to dominate the NBA. The week was arguably the toughest for any NBA club in recent mind. First, the team traveled to San Antonio and won an impressive 93-91 victory and in the process beating the Spurs both times in one season which had not happened in a long while. The following night, they traveled to Houston to take on a Rockets team that had not lost in 22 straight games, the 2nd best winning streak in NBA history. The Celtics won easily 94-74.
The team then traveled to Dallas for another nationally televised game and won 94-90. By winning all three games, the Celtics became the 1st team since the Kings in 2001 to sweep the "Texas Trip". Even more impressive was all 3 Texas teams had amazing records(all 3 had at least 44 wins!) yet the C's won all three. The Celtics ended the road trip at New Orleans, who came in with a stellar 46-21 record. The Celtics crushed the Hornets for most of the game and had a double-digit lead at the half. Unfortunately for the green, the Hornets took advantage of a tired team that clearly ran out of steam. A 4th quarter collapse gave NO a 113-106 win.
After taking on Philadelphia and Phoenix later this week, the Hornets come into Boston and the Celtics I'm sure can't wait for that one.
Well, the Bruins went another week without winning a game. With teams all over them, the Bruins continue to lose, mostly because of a lack of scoring and injuries. Luckily, the team welcomed captain Chara back for both games this week. The only 2 matches were a home-and-home series with the Habs. The black and gold were 0-6 against the Habs. Thursday night in Boston featured a 2-goal performance by Kovalev en route to a 4-2 win over the good guys.
The 2 clubs met 48 hours later with Thomas/Price duel in tow. The team battled hard and the game ended 2-2. In the shootout, Koivu's lone goal of the extra frame gave the Habs a 3-2 win.
Yes, that technically means the Bruins went 0-8 vs. Montreal this season. That sucks.
With 7 games to go, the team needs wins now. They take on Toronto twice in 2 huge games. Then the black and gold have weekend games with Ottawa and Buffalo. Here are the Eastern Conference standings with only a handful of games to play. Go Bruins!
