This may sound like sour grapes, but once again we learn how the BCS is a sham, a disgrace to NCAA Football. Since its implementation, every year there has been numerous errors that have made the BCS the laughing stock at bars and campuses alike.
This year, teams like USC, Boston College and Arizona State got screwed. We all know that all three programs ended the year in the top 15 and each at one point were ranked in the top 5. Arizona State and BC were sent to mediocre bowls yet teams like Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin were sent to better bowls based on their big name programs.
BC was #2 for awhile behind OSU. They were 8-0 at 1 point after beating VT on the road. They lost only 2 games all year and both those teams are in bowl games. They lost a heartbreaker to VT in the ACC Championship game sending VT to the Orange Bowl and BC to a second-tier bowl. Now I know why I boycott the whole BCS system and only learn of the matchups by reading the paper.
Even after lsoing the ACC title game, BC had options. The Chick-fil-A took Clemson instead even though BC beat them in Clemson a few weeks back. BC was ranked higher than them in nearly every week and finished higher than the in all polls. Yet the shameless people within the Chick-F-U Bowl took Clemson. It's all politics, per say. A disgraceful move on their part. BC is the better team no questions asked.
BC finished the year ranked 14 in the BCS, one spot below Illinois who are going to a BCS Bowl in the Rose Bowl. Yet unranked Michigan, 16 Tennessee, 18 Wisconsin, 20 Virginia, 23 Auburn, unranked Penn State, Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Txas Tech receieved betterbowls than 14th ranked BC, 11 Arizona State and 22 Cincinnati. That in itself is a travesty. What's the point of playing the season if a big name school will always get the big bowls based on their reputation.
I could've mentioned more teams but it all depends on which second tier bowl is worse, say BC/MSU(Champs) vs. the Sun Bowl, Emerald Bowl or Independence Bowl. That would add 6 more teams ranked lower than the likes of ASU or BC.
BC has been ranked all year, never lower than 18 since October, has not lost or missed a bowl game in awhile, has a Heisman candidate QB and and was 7 minutes away from being ranked in the top 8 and the Orange Bowl. The the scumbag committee overlooks this and chooses a program that sells more tickets, travels and spends more money and will draw a bigger tv audience. In my eyes, the 1Missouri vs. 8Oklahoma, 6VT vs. 11BC, 2Kansas vs. 4Missouri and the 6ASU vs. 11USC were the real BCS games. They all took place in the past 2 weeks.
I'll make sure none of my time or money goes in any way towards the BCS games a few weeks from now.
Teams getting screwed the most- Cincinnati, Boise State and Nevada, sent to Dec. 23 games nobody will notice. Plus BC, ASU and Missouri.
Teams getting rewarded- Michigan, Maryland, FSU, Arkansas, Virginia, Texas Tech and Illinois.
The laugh is on the BCS. Everyone knows it's a scam and each and every year it's proven more and more. My plan. Have the teams based on the final BCS rankings play one another. Example- 1vs2, 3vs.4.5vs.6 etc.-it's the fairest way to get the right matchups.
This felt good.
