PATRIOT GAMES

I have a few minutes before the start of game 4 between the Sox and Rox in the World Series, so here was the week that was in our local sports scene.
The Patriots have broken a ton of records thus far in the 2007 NFL season on their way to a perfect record.
Earlier today, the Pats hosted the Redskins. The Pats dominated in beautiful fashion on their way to a 52-7 win. Only a late skins' td helped avoid the shutout. Mike Vrabel led the defense with 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 9 tackles......plus a touchdown reception and a recovery of an onside kick.
The Pats scored 34 or more points for the 8th straight game to gain an NFL record! They average over 40 points a game with the season half way over.
Tom Brady once again threw for 3 td's, adding on to his current NFL record. He was 29-38 for 3 td's , no picks and 2 rushing td's. Welker had 9 grabs for 89 yards and Maroney and Faulk had big days via the running game and passing game.
The game was never in jeopardy, as the Pats stormed to a 24-0 lead at the half. The Redskins came in at 4-2 and are considered a very good team. Nonetheless, the Pats dominated and take a 8-0 record into Indy for a rematch of last season's AFC Championship (or some say the "real" Super Bowl). The Colts are undefeated at 7-0. It will be the regular season game of the year by far. These 2 teams are truly in a class of their own.
Meanwhile, the #2 BC Eagles went to Blacksburg to take on #8 in a nationally televised game. The conditions were horrific as the rain was furious. The Eagles could not get anything going on the ground and trailed 10-0 with 2 minutes left. The Eagles scored on a Ryan pass and tried the onside kick.
They got it to keep the game going and ended up scoring a last second td on a Ryan to Callendar pass. A game for the ages. With the improbable victory BC remained #2 in all polls and sit behind OSU. Four games remain and the team is all but guaranteed the BCS Championship game if they win out. For now, the team welcomes FSU into The Heights for the next game on their road to glory.
The Celtics finished the pre-season 4-3 and open the season Friday night versus the Wizards. The Bruins got shellacked in Montreal Monday but regrouped to beat Chicago on Thursday. The team then lost Saturday at home 2-1 versus the Flyers in a game marred by a horrible hit on Bergeron that left him unconscious. He suffered a concussion and a broken nose and the team played with it on their mind in the defeat.
Lastly, Billerica won their football game over Haverhill 31-7 and take their 7-1 record into a game with Tewksbury next week. They are battling Chelmsford and Andover for the crown.
