The only time I get to blog all week is on Sunday. Lots of things happen during each week, whether good or bad. It seems it's all forgotten on Sunday in part because sports takes over, most notably when football begins.
The Patriots kicked off their 2007 campaign in stellar fashion by easily dispatching the decent Jets 38-14 at The Meadowlands. The team dominated in all aspects of the game. The offense was amazing, led by Brady, Moss and the offensive line. Tom Terrific was 22-28 for 297 yards and 3 td's. Moss had 9 grabs for 183 yards. The O-Line gave enough holes to run and allowed zero sacks while giving Brady plenty of passing time.
The defense was brilliant led by Mike Vrabel's 2.5 sacks and Green's 2 sacks. Even without the injured Seymour and suspended Harrison the defense dominated. Jets RB Thomas Jones could only accumulate 42 yards and zero td's. Special teams was solid too, Ellis Hobbs had a record breaking 108-yard kickoff return for a score. All around a great day for the Pats.
The Sox had a good week too. They won 2 0f 3 from the Blue Jays despite blowing a late lead in Wed. loss. The team traveled to Baltimore for 4 games and won 3 as only Dice-K's unraveling kept the team from sweeping. A 4-1 lead disappeared when Dice gave up 8 runs in 2 2/3 innings. Great week though. The Yanks dominated too and the lead rests at 5.5.
The 2 teams meet for the final time next weekend in Boston. The Yanks swept the Royals this weekend to go 9-1 against them, while the Sox played them at .500. That is one reason the Yanks have kept it somewhat close in the division.
Quick thoughts-
-Dustin Pedroia is hands-down the AL Rookie Of The Year.
-Nobody should panic about the division. The lead is a decent 5.5 games and the Sox should seek revenge versus the pinstripes next week in Boston. The Sox other remaining games are against teams with losing records. Plus a majority of the remaining games are in the friendly confines of Fenway.
-It was good to take 3 of 4 from the O's. Last time the O's stole 2 games in the late innings versus the Sox and revenge was yearned for. Cabrera was tossed for his antics this weekend. He was miffed at Coco and then threw at our 2nd baseman. I wonder if I'm the only Red Sox fan miffed at opponents throwing at us. Expect possible fireworks next weekend in Boston for Chamberlain's antics a few weeks back.
-Check next week's blog as sports will reign supreme. The Sox are vs. the Yanks, the Pats play the Chargers and BC plays GT. Wow!
-Props to BC Eagle football for beating NC State handedly and improving to 2-0. Next week they'll play Georgia Tech in a possible preview of this year's ACC Championship.
-Speaking of college ball, I despise the national polls. Every year BC gets disrespected. For instance, last year they won their seventh consecutive bowl game and finished in the top 15 in both polls. Yet they started the year unranked even though they brought back most of the prior year's club including Dunbar, Tribble and Ryan. They should be ranked in the top 15 at the very least.
-Props to the Billerica Indians, my hometown, for winning their opener. It's a storied football program that is hopefully back on the winning track.
-Props to the Portland Sea Dogs in making the playoffs before losing last night. They hoped to win back-to-back Eastern League Championships but fell short.
