Quick thoughts-
It was a busy week in the NFL. Tim Couch refuses to hang it up, to no fault of his. After numerous teams around the league requested his services, he signed a 2 year deal with the Jags. What are they thinking?
The best signings of the week are the three best picks in the 2007 draft, Landry, Peterson and Willis. The numbers make little sense though. 5 years 40 million (Peterson) for a guy who has yet to take a professional snap.
I'm glad Priest Holmes is making a comeback, especially considering it may shut up Larry Johnson.
T. Jackson will never last as the starter in Minnesota, they should kick the tires on old friend Dante Culpepper.
In baseball, can't wait for the whole Barry watch to end. This and the Vick saga are making me cringe. Can't wait to move forward.
I hope the Brewers don't collapse. A great season is falling fast, much like the Royals a few years back. They deserve it.
Ripken and Gwynn got inducted yesterday. Gwynn numbers are staggering. Absolutely incredible. His .300 consistent seasons and lifetime .333 average leave me in awe, not to mention his leadership and the gold gloves.
From the NBA, the new contract at 6 years/ $51 million raises one question-
Who exactly is Mo Williams? Contracts like this get stranger and stranger. Sports are becoming an embarrassment right in front of our eyes.
Speaking of embarrassment, troubled ref Tim Donaghy is the big story in the NBA. The media is making a big deal out of it, but I could care less. This stuff happens all the time.
Marc Stein is reporting the Garnett deal is back on. Image Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett together? The contracts may be silly, each between 16-22 million, but wow the Celtics would be deadly.
In the NHL, I tend to agree with Adam Proteau top 5 bad contracts from this morning, but I'll take Souray any day and replace his name on that list with D. Roy recent deal.
The Penner story will play out this week, with the Oilers and Ducks G.M.'s supplying plenty of fireworks.
My worst signing thus far? No doubt Thomas Vanek 7 years /50 million. Unbelievable.
Safe deals from North of the Border- M. Ryder 1 year $2.9 million with the Habs and Ray Emery 3 years $9.5 million with Ottawa. Ryder will command much more if he stays healthy and Emery is a good fit in Ottawa, but when he's not hot I think he's no better than a back up.
