I'm not one to panic. The Red Sox just got swept by the Tigers in three games. The loss in the second game was hard, 13 innings of frustration. Losing by a run in the series finale didn't help the cause. The bats continued to prove inconsistency, while the pitching has been solid.
The main problem is leaving guys on base. It seems nearly every year this is the Red Sox Achilles heel. It happened this weekend and all season.
Moreover, the team has fallen on hard times. In recent weeks, the club got swept in Seattle, split 4 games at home with the lowly Rangers, swept the pathetic Rays and then got blasted by Detroit. The team was sub .500 in June and July has followed suit. Injuries have at time plagued the club, and the team has yet to fully launch.
On the bright side, the team holds the best record in the majors at the all star break. They hold a double-digit lead in the AL East and have 6 all stars, highest of all teams.
The team will need to improve, especially the offense. Something tells me the Tigers and Sox will meet in October, and as they say, revenge is a bitch. Go Red Sox!
