"THE WEEKEND" Part 1

In general, life and sports are very much alike; their are good days and their are bad days. Fortunately, the first weekend of March was near perfect for the sports scene in Boston.
First, the Celtics. Entering the weekend, the green continued to battle Memphis for the dreaded honor of the worst record in the NBA. The Celts traveled into New Jersey on a two game win streak, hard to imagine when viewing their dismal 15-42 record even after the consecutive victories.
Staged by an inconceivable late rally, the green tied the game late, thanks in part to successful trifecta's via Paul Pierce and Delonte West in the closing minute. The Celts outscored the Nets 13-5 in the extra session en route to a 96-88 victory.
The following afternoon the Celts welcomed the Timberwolves into the Garden. The teams collided exactly 3 weeks ago, which featured a buzzer beater by Ricky Davis that left the Celts stunned. The final was 109-107.
This time around, it was the Wolves that were left shaken. It was an epic game that featured plenty of drama. Skipping ahead to the 4th quarter, the game went back and forth until the Celts attempted to safeguard a 93-90 lead. The lead disappeared when Troy Hudson drained a trifecta with 9 seconds remaining. The game would head into an extra frame.
The Celts led 102-99 until Davis hit a three pointer to even the score. The Celts fought back, and once again nursed a 3 point lead late in the overtime. Unfortunately, Kevin Garnett (33 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists) nailed a three point shot with 4 seconds left to tie things up.
Even with excellent performances by Hudson and Davis, the Celts would hold off the Wolves en route to a 124-117 victory.
Delonte West played a phenomenal second half/overtime. Despite being held scoreless in the first half, he sparked the club and finished with 31 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds. Al Jefferson was the team's MVP for the weekend. Against the Nets, he chipped in 32 points and 18 rebounds, Versus the Wolves, he poured in 20 points and 14 rebounds. He now has 30 double-doubles' thus far!
What's most important from the back to back wins, and the current 4 game win streak, is that the club may have finally found a way to win games. In recent years, the team's main Achilles heel is the inability, simply put, win basketball games. Though they still sit at a discouraging
17-42 record, if the team may have overcome their troubles. The team would have most certainly lost both games this weekend if it had been the club from last week, month, or year.
Time will tell if the Celts have conquered their flaw. After all, the team did win 5 consecutive games earlier this season.
